Bathroom Cleaning Tips
Are you eager to embrace the cozy bathroom trend? You’ll need to learn how to carry out a deep clean. After all, there’s nothing more stress-inducing than sinking into a hot bubbly bath, only to notice grime and mold around the showerhead or wall tiles.
If your go-to cleaning technique is to swipe a damp cloth around your bathroom, it’s time to up your game. Fortunately, we’ve put together a handy guide to get you started.
How often should I clean my bathroom?
Generally speaking, you should clean your bathroom at least once a week. However, there are a few simple jobs you should do every couple of days to maintain maximum cleanliness. These tasks include washing your towels, wiping your shower curtain, and disinfecting your toilet bowl.
What are the best ways to clean my bathroom?
Most of us think we know how to clean a bathroom. However, recent survey results show that 51% of Americans clean their shower curtains less than once every six months (!), while 33% are happy to use the same towel for more than a week. If you’re also guilty of neglecting your bathroom, here are some tips to help you fix up:
De-grime your grout
If your bathroom walls are tiled, you should give them a thorough scrub at least once a week. Use a stiff brush and a bleach-based cleaning solution for best results – and remember to rinse once you’re done.
Disinfect your sink
This is one of the easiest and most satisfying jobs. Simply spray a disinfectant cleaner such as Lysol all over your sink and wipe it clean with a sponge. And don’t forget to spray the faucet handles and underside of the sink!
Tackle your toilet
Most of us dread cleaning the toilet, but it can become a petri dish for dangerous germs if you’re not careful. Clean your toilet at least once a week to avoid nasty illness, like so:
- Apply a layer of toilet bowl cleaner containing bleach and leave for five minutes.
- Scrub the bowl with a toilet brush and flush.
- Wipe the seat, handle, and outer parts of the toilet using disinfectants wipes.
- Spray your toilet brush with disinfectant and leave to dry
Blitz your bathtub
Foaming cleansers are great for bathtubs, helping dissolve stubborn grime and soap scum. Simply apply a layer of cleaner, leave to dry in line with instructions, and scrub using a sponge or microfiber cloth!
Clean your shower door or curtain
Shower curtains can get super moldy if you’re not careful. The easiest way to avoid this is to stick them in the washing machine every week or so, along with a few old towels. This will help to get rid of pesky mildew and soap scum.
If you have a shower door, apply a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar and leave it for an hour. When ready, wipe the door clean with a microfiber cloth.
Don’t neglect your walls or countertops
We’re sorry to say that there aren’t any loopholes when it comes to cleaning your bathroom – you need to address every nook and cranny. For countertops and walls, spray all surfaces with an all-purpose bathroom cleaner and steam up the bathroom by turning the shower on to a hot setting. After ten minutes or so, wipe down all surfaces using a clean cloth or mop.
Wipe your floor
Even if your floor looks clean, you should wipe it down using a bleach-based cleanser at least once a week. Failure to do so will lead to increased wear and tear in the long term.
Time to grab your rubber gloves!
